Confessions of a cat

So you’ve heard about Apple’s latest endeavor, named ‘Snow leopard’. It is basically what Leopard is today, but will be optimized to run on Intel machines only, and also removed will be some cruft that is never used anyway.

First:

- Whan you install Leopard (or Tiger) it asks you to choose a Language for the OS. I guess it will only set it as a preference, but still copies all language resources to your hard drive. These occupy at least a few hundred megabytes (or more) which can be easily removed by the open source monolingual application.

- I have bought and use xslimmer which can remove all the unneeded language resources and code. What I mean by this? Universal binaries hold code for ppc 32/64 bit and intel 32/64 bit processors - 4 times the code needed to run the app. Also if an app can work in multiple languages, all of them are included in its bundle - even if you never use them. Xslimmer also has a blacklist of applications that would not work if treated with it. The list is not too long though… If you do not want to buy Xslimmer, all it does can easily be done in the shell, using built in OS X commands - but since I have it I never tried to experiment with the same in the shell.

- So far you’ve probably saved a good few gigabytes of space on your hard drive (enough for a few movies or some music). Now, there’s still these nasty .nib bundles / files. These keep the resources that describe how an applications interface looks, and are generated by the freely available interface builder application. They still eat up a lot of space, but if you are willing to open up Terminal.app (the shell), and run the following, you won’t regret it:

200 millió Ft. Egy honlap. Ruby on rails, az nyilvánvaló a HTML forráskód alapján. Design: 1 hét, kódolás: 3-4 hét max. teszteléssel, de már így is ráhagytam “nem kicsit”. Közbeszerzés, persze, mi más. Synergon, HP meg Kopint-Datorg, faszom. Bontásban, kb., a pletykák alapján:

- 80 millió Ft szerverekre. 19 db összesen. (a honlap max. pár ezer látogatót fog vonzani…)

- 20 millió Ft szoftver licenszekre, többek közt MySQL Gold licenszekre (?jó, legyen, az adófizetők állják, de ez is minek? ingyenes a cucc, a supportot meg már fizetik a Kopint Datorg-nak nyilván “karbannyalási” díjként), meg az Adobe-ot emlegetik, gondolom leginkább a video konvertálás miatt? (ffmpeg, valaki?)

a maradék 100(!) milla meg úgymond a honlap fejlesztésére, amit fentebb megbecsültem, több éves tapasztalatom alapján a vállalati, és a freelance webfejlesztő közösségben. Még egyszer: 100 milla. Aki 2000%-os hasznot ír, nem nagyon basz mellé. Még ha minden le is van papírozva, és a felét ennek a lovettának visszacsurgatják állam bá zsebecskéibe, akkor is elég durva. Persze nyilván nagy része költségként jelentkezik ennek is És úgy már másfele csurog.

Ja, azt már nem is írom, hogy véletlenül épp Ferkó valami tanácsadója egy fazon, aki előtte  a Synergonnak dolgozott. És nem mellesleg ilyen manőverek után hogy hiheti bárki is, hogy az emberek másképp állnak hozzá - úgy általában - a dolgokhoz. Hogy a rómaiak tiltakoznak, hogy nehogy mán dolgozni fogják őket Monokon, mer a segíly az “jár”. És pont. Mé, há nem?! Hogy szlovák rendszámokkal nyomulnak az utcákon. Meg amcsi rendszámokkal, buzi “telep”járókkal nagy kerékkel, amire a kerékbilincs se fér rá. Meg hogy csomóan minimálbére vannak - ha vannak egyáltalán - bejelentve. Meg még sorolhatnám, de nem teszem.
