Drupal and cooking and LEGO

These three things have more in common than you can imagine.

Drupal in itself is like water. It takes the form of the vessel you put it into. In other words: it can look just about any way you can think of.

With cooking you first decide what it is you want to make (cake, soup, whatever). So it is with Drupal.

When you are creating a LEGO building or robot, or whatever, you also need to decide what you want to create. Then based on what it is you want, you start gathering the little pieces (drupal modules) that will be used as different parts of the building. So it is with cooking. You gather the ingredients first.

Then there is a specific process you use for all of them. First you set up the base. Then carefully add the ingredients in the proper order (drupal: enable modules in the proper order, as there are a lot of them that depend on other ones).

When you have added the ingredients you set them up properly (in cooking: stir for half an hour, etc.).

And in the end comes seasoning (drupal: theming or skinning).

In short, that’s it. You may also add making a building to this list and many more, I suppose.
